Act 2 Prologue

(Duke enters dark stage in front of curtains, walks out to audience)

Duke: So, my fellow travelers, does Old Duke’s story warrant another taste of your filling stew? It is so lovely and hit a spot in Duke’s belly that has long been vacant.  Mmmm, is that sage I smell? Ahh, a taste of the open prairies. It has been so long since Old Duke has left these woods, but oh does that smell transport me like Proust’s madeleines. What? It’s a kind of cookie. Nevermind, nevermind. I’m back to the here and now and ready to resume my tale. Let my story be our dessert, as it is such a sweet tale.  Where was I, oh yeah. Our young hero has found a tenuous place amongst the denizens of Hullsum.  He once again learns to live among proper folk all the while sharing some of his skills with them compound kids. Yes, yes, I know you are all interested in how he is getting on with that young filly Stiletto (sighs, stares off in the distance for a moment)  What, yeah, well after a few weeks together, they started to grow close, each learning from the other. As they say, love blooms in the strangest places, kinda like that fungus under your toenail after wearing shoes from a dead man too long, especially when they are two sizes too small.  Say,(points to someone in the audience) what size is your foot…
